I find AI useful as a better search engine and little past that. The reason being that I have a taste for what I like and what I don’t like. AI is not able to digest that taste because it does not operate at the individual human level. I have a feeling that people are part of an unquantifiable world, and it is unfathomable that a statistical entity will ever “get” the unquantifiable. For example, my desires come from the world, and hit me in unexpected ways. Moments of intense feelings. AI has no context to intuit these experiences, and how they might impact my vision of how things should be. It’s possible to bring parts of the unquantifiable world into the quantifiable world, such as typing out code. Perhaps AI can fit preferences for particular syntax or structure, but it is unable to perceive it and take it past small predictions in a useful way.
I think companies and people can often be drawn to statistics because the promise is so alluring. What they miss is that the unquantifiable world exists, which is the most important thing. I love seeing someone with tenacity, taste, and vision. The reason being that they can capture that unquantifiable realm of the world. Instead of letting a statistical entity take you down an average path, walk your own tenacious path.
I’m not an AI hater and its current value as a better search engine is immense. I’m writing this because I’ve seen many people delegate everything to AI because they see surface level perfection. This is a reminder that even in our age, you have what AI will never have ☼ taste of the unquantifiable ☼ so live it.
